Position Summary

The Packager III will assemble and package products in a fast-paced production line environment, using automated and manual equipment, while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Shift Hours: Monday - Thursday 6 AM - 3:30 PM & Friday 6 AM - 10 AM

What You'll do as a Packager III

  • Perform and have proficiency in all Packager II operations, including but not limited to packing, filling, or assembly operations, according to safety standards, quality standards, and production needs.
  • Ensure cups, pouches, and packages are properly filled or assembled with correct weights or quantities per standard operating procedures. 
  • Visually inspect products ensuring conformance to specifications including lot codes and expiration dates on product.
  • Place product into final packaging, ensuring proper labeling.
  • Document information to track production quantities, lot numbers, rejected parts, and machine setting information. 
  • Reject non-conforming material using proper procedures.
  • Assist in training other employees on assembly/packaging operations using basic lean tools. 
  • Initial line clearance and lot/product changeovers.
  • Operate powered/manual pallet lift and restock materials as needed.
  • Replace raw materials as required during set up process and during continuous runs of production lots.  
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and pay close attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness of processes and/or steps leading to the accomplishment of results.  
  • Identify need for equipment maintenance, and complete work request for the maintenance department.
  • Participate in Lean processes, including but not limited to updating hour-by-hour boards, tracking production data, leading 5S audits, and using basic lean tools.
  • Always ensure safe operation by wearing proper PPE, reporting and/or correcting safety concerns, and look for ways to improve quality, safety, and efficiency to support continuous improvement.
  • Set- up and operate assembly equipment (i.e. Pumps, filler mechanisms) and control machine parameters to dispense critical components within acceptable tolerances and standards.
  • Continuous monitoring of assembly equipment and processes while documenting results and making in-process adjustments to ensure product conforms to specification.
  • Effectively handles laboratory chemicals, corrosive liquid, and/or spore suspensions based on working area, and utilizes safety protocols and procedures to prevent and respond to potential leaks and spills.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required: 

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of experience working in an assembly, packaging, chemical, manufacturing, or relevant fast-paced environment.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • 1 year of material handling experience (i.e., Forklift/pallet jack). 

Preferred: 

  • 2 years of experience working in a STERIS assembly, packaging, chemical, manufacturing, or relevant fast-paced environment. 

Other: 

  • Ability to read and understand instructions, diagrams, and quality check sheets.
  • Ability to interpret and follow written procedures to ensure product and packaging meets required specifications.
  • Detail oriented with ability to identify items against specifications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities while staying focused on achieving goals related to safety, quality, and delivery/customer needs.
  • Able to run manual and powered pallet lift and restock materials as needed.
  • Promote cooperation and commitment within a team environment.
  • Ability to work well with others and use good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to make adjustments or inputs to computer or PLC.
  • Basic troubleshooting - ability to identify and describe machine issues to maintenance.
  • Must be mechanically inclined and be able to respond in order to make in-process adjustments in a timely manner.

Pay rate for this opportunity is $20.24. This position is eligible for bonus participation. 

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
